Gypsy & Pig on Urbanspoon

There's not many places in the city that serve reasonably priced and real Japanese food, but one that comes to mind is Gypsy and pig. I came here with my friends on a Thursday night with no booking and was relieved that we could be seated immediately.

A cute board showing tonight's specials

Special: Sauteed kurobuta pork belly cooked in teriyaki balsamic served with caramalised cinammon apple & mash potato $22.0. Rachel's dish looked quite pretty! But it was definitely a small serving.

Deep fried crumbed kurobuta loin with set (inc. miso soup, steamed rish, small dish and pickled veg extra $7) $27.0. The waitress described this as more of a fattier cut of meat... But I found it was a bit dry for my liking (probably because I was comparing to the tonkatsu I had in Hongkong that melted in my mouth). That being said, the quality of pork was certainly decent and didn't taste all too bad especially with the tonkatsu sauce.

Gypsy and Pig is an authentic Japanese restaurant that specialises in pork. The service here is lovely and staff are so accommodating with refilling the complimentary lettuce and rice. Although I didn't love my dish, they do have a large range of other meals to try. I did come to this place last year during lunchtime and found that I liked the food that time a lot more. It's slightly more value for money as most lunch sets are around the 20 dollar mark!
